The Only Animal is transforming Rockwood Lodge into an interactive and intimate eco dye labyrinth at the 2025 Sunshine Coast Art Crawl. Celebrating the work and relationships we developed during The Growing Season residency, each room will reveal an aspect of TOA’s multi-disciplinary arts practice. Visitors can view samples and join live demos to try natural dye, eco-printing and embroidery, and hear sound art inspired by the natural world.

Join mycologist and artist Willoughby Arévalo and interdisciplinary artist Isabelle Kirouac for an Art and Fungi Walk in the ornamental gardens of Rockwood Lodge and nearby surroundings.
Through this interactive walk, participants will engage with local fungi and plants and learn how they interact with other members of their ecosystems, including humans. Drawing from scientific and embodied knowledge alike, the walk will include simple art activities and sensory meditations inspired by fungi and the myceliated world underneath our feet.
Additionally, Art & Fungi will offer a free drop-in activity inspired by mushroom scents inside the Rockwood Lodge, alongside The Only Animal’s exhibition at the Art Crawl. Participants will be invited to interpret a diversity of smells found in fungi. Join us as we playfully explore, identify, analyze, and discuss the wide range of aromas represented in the Aromatic Wheel of Fungi, a didactic and experimental tool for fungal scents!
